Welcome, September—White Rabbits!
“Fair on the first of September, fair the entire month” (Farmer's Almanac).
Happy Labor Day—Here’s to doing good work, working well, working hard, with your hands, working towards something, doing work that you love. And happy day off from work. Here's to a rest away from work!
Welcome Spooky Spiderweb Season, late summer, and a whisper of fall.
Happy Friday the 13th everyone.
Below: Some garden inspiration—English cottage gardens. Old land that has been tended to, again and again and again. And making use of a small space and using it well.
A very old pub, a very old garden, and a very delicious ploughman’s lunch.
Ploughman’s lunch: a cold lunch served especially in an English pub typically including bread, cheese, and pickled onions, (“Ploughman's lunch.” Merriam-Webster.com). It is often associated both with rural poverty as well as an idealised rural life with the term dating back to the 1950s as a means of increasing cheese sales; though, beer, bread, and cheese have all long been a combination popular in an English diet for centuries.
Fragrant english rose in bloom (in September! Still summer?) called Honey Dijon (notes of: clove, lemon, earth).
Harvesting, processing, canning, pickling, fermenting, preserving, baking, etc.
Five (5) orange kittens (plus one (1) calico kitten, not pictured).
Sourdough Focaccia featuring our herbs! Rosemary, thyme, and chives.
Bloody Mary mix—available for purchase soon.
Feverfew in bloom. This coming week we are having an herb sale! Buy 5, get 2 free. Still a great time to plant some perennials. Come pick out some herbs to add to your garden (Tip: want English-style? Pack them tightly and plant often, every season) to plant and get established as the summer wanes.
Do good work. Plant an English-style garden wherever you are. Stay spoooooky.:)
